The Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA)
Founded in 1972, today the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) is both an organisation and a movement, with a membership of around 2.5 million (and still growing) women workers from the informal economy across multiple states of India.
SEWA’s goals are full employment and self-reliance for our members with a thrust on food, income, health and social security. Our strategy is a blend of union and cooperatives. While, our union gives strength, support and voice to our sisters; our cooperatives nurture their lives and livelihoods by facilitating better income, skill upgrade, marketing, and credit access.
